About Lonzo
Yet another beautiful retriever type boy in our care, this is Lonzo! He was found without a collar or microchip, wandering the outskirts of Nicosia looking for food and water. When he arrived at the shelter he was quite withdrawn and anxious, but within a day we saw a completely different character emerge. He’s now a very happy, friendly and sociable boy, and ready to find his forever home.
Lonzo is estimated to be around 1-2 years old, so still quite a young dog who will need some focus and training in a new home. He loves people and is more than happy to make new friends given any opportunity. He is great with the volunteers that visit at the weekends, and he has bonded well with the shelter staff too. He will wait so patiently at the bars of his kennel in the hope that you’ll go in to see him.
Since arriving in the shelter Lonzo has shared his kennel with two different groups of dogs and he has had no trouble integrating. He is wise to reading canine body language and knows when to give other dogs space, or when they want to play. He is friendly with male and female dogs alike, and if challenged by another dog he is quite submissive and prefers not to engage. If he lived in a home with another resident dog they would need to be of a friendly, playful and sociable nature.
Lonzo is still getting to grips with lead training, and gets very excited to go outside. He can get a bit overstimulated quite quickly outdoors, so we’re working on that, but his new family may need to continue to do so. With consistency and a better routine than we’re able to offer him, we’re confident this will improve.
Lonzo is looking for a semi-rural home with a garden and a fairly active lifestyle. He would prefer an away from busy roads and lots of noise, and wouldn’t enjoy being left at home alone for extended periods of time. He very much wants to be involved and in good company, as he’s people oriented. We don’t think that he needs another dog at home to help him settle, but equally he’d be happy having another dog to play with and spend time with too.
So far Lonzo has shown us that he’s a quietly confident, very friendly and pretty adaptable boy who was always meant to be a companion. Someone will be very lucky to share their life with this sweet boy and his silly, but charming personality.
