About Maya
Maya came to the shelter as an owner surrender after her family were no longer able to care for her. She is five years old, and prior to January she knew what it was to be loved, live in a home, and have people who cared for her. Unfortunately her family just didn’t have the time for a dog anymore, and felt it was better for Maya to find a new home.
Maya went into a local foster home in Cyprus with a view to being adopted, but unfortunately her foster has realised he’s allergic to her. He has however decided to look after her until we can find her a home in the UK, and he will work on her training and socialisation in the meantime.
Being a Jack Russell, Maya is loyal, friendly and cheeky. She hated being caged in the shelter, and she would jump up at the door every now and again as though she was asking you to open it and let her out. She would sit and stare at every person who came past her kennel longingly, and if you showed her any attention at all her entire body wiggled with excitement.
Maya has perfected ‘sit’ and is very proud to show everyone. She loves treats and gets very excited the moment you take a biscuit out of your pocket! She’s very keen to please, and it’s clear that she is hugely people-focused, so we don’t think that she would have any problems forming a strong bond with her new family. She would absolutely love a home where she was the centre of attention and had lots of human company throughout the day.
Before Maya went into a foster home she was sharing her kennel with another dog and she was very tolerant of him. He’s not the calmest natured dog and she was patient with his bouncing around and occasionally annoying puppy behaviour. That said, Maya would probably prefer a home where she is the only dog. She is good natured when meeting other dogs on the lead, but would rather not be rushed up to as it can be quite overwhelming for her being so small.
Maya’s ideal environment would be a chilled out home atmosphere, based outside of the city surrounded by lovely green spaces and places to walk. She would prefer a home with access to a garden, and we think she would be happiest with quite a predictable routine. She’s happy to keep up with a fairly active lifestyle, and all she really wants is to be the apple of someone’s eye. After five years of love, to end up abandoned in a shelter is such a horrible thing to experience, and we hope it won’t be long before she gets her second chance.
