About Monkey

Monkey arrived in the shelter after being picked up by the dog warden as a stray. He had no microchip or collar, and sadly no one came looking for him, so he’s now seeking a forever home. He is absolutely full of love and enthusiasm, and he is going to bring so much fun to someone’s family.

Monkey is only a baby at around eight months old. He is very affectionate, silly and sweet, and being a young dog he has lots of energy and plenty to learn. He loves any kind of human attention and gets so, so excited to interact with you. He can be a bit manic for the first ten minutes or so, and he takes a little time to calm down and stop bouncing about all over the place, but this is very normal in a shelter setting. In a home where he has routine, training and direction, we are sure that he will gradually calm down.

After his initial excitement, Monkey is so unbelievably affectionate. He melts into your arms and loves to be held like a baby. When the cuddle is just right, he closes his eyes and enjoys every minute of fuss he gets. He is super human focused and absolutely loves being the centre of attention.

Monkey is also friendly with other dogs and gets along with his kennel mates well. He could live in a home with another settled resident dog, especially one who would like to play and can match his energy, but if he has a lot of human company though the day he could be homed as the only dog. Monkey is quite needy, so it is possible that he may show some separation anxiety to begin with, so another dog may help alleviate some of that.

Monkey would love a relatively active lifestyle. He’s small, but active, and would be able to keep up with regular walks and weekend rambles. He needs some basic training, as he’s only young, but as he’s very food motivated this will really help! He loves treats and gets so wiggly and excited when you get them out for him! We are still working on nailing a ‘sit’, as at the moment he either does a head tilt or a play bow instead! He’s so sweet and playful, it’s hard not to fall in love with his charming personality almost immediately.

Although Monkey is initially very bouncy, once he settles he’s a lovely, cuddly boy, and we think he would suit a home with children aged 6+. He would be happy in most family homes as long as he’s not expected to spend long periods of time alone, and he would also benefit from direct access to a little garden to potter about and burn off some puppy energy during the day. He’d also rather live somewhere a little calmer, rather than right in the city.

Monkey has so much potential to blossom into a fabulous little companion with some entry level training, lots of company and the feeling of security. We love this little guy, so we can’t wait to see him in the perfect home.
