About Red

Red was brought into the shelter in Cyprus as a stray by the dog warden, arriving without a microchip and with no one coming forward to claim him. We suspect he’s probably spent much of his life living outdoors with access to food and water, but without the stability or closeness of being a true family companion. Despite that, Red has come into the shelter with nothing but an ever wagging tail anda whole lot of love to give.

Red is a lovely boy. He’s trusting, friendly, enthusiastic and really happy go lucky, with a real love for humans. He always has a positive attitude and assumes everyone he meets is a potential new best friend. He thrives on human interaction and is always keen to be involved in whatever is going on around him.

Red is great with people. He absolutely adores human company and is literally bursting with excitement when he gets attention. He is a big lad and can be bouncy, so his enthusiasm might feel a bit much for very young children or those who aren’t confident around dogs, but it’s all coming from a place of genuine joy and he just wants to say hello to everyone.

Red is also good with other dogs. He currently shares his kennel with a very confident, large female who is very much in charge, and Red is more than happy to let her lead the way. He’s quite submissive around confident dogs, reads body language well and tends to seek out friendships with dogs who match his friendly, sociable nature. While he gets on well with others, he would also be content living as the only dog in a home, as long as his social and exercise needs are met.

Given his size, breed type and energy levels, we feel Red would be happiest in a more rural or semi-rural setting, ideally with access to a garden. As a shepherd mix, he’s super smart, switched on and very eager to please, so a home that’s happy to put some time into basic training would be perfect for him. He’s an active boy who would love adventure, freedom and plenty of time outdoors, and having a garden will likely help him settle more easily given his suspected background of free roaming.

Red is a big dog with an equally big heart who has so much love and loyalty to give. He’s ready for an active home to fulfil all his adventuring needs and to give him the feeling of belonging that he craves.
