About Rena
Rena was brought into the shelter by the dog warden after she’d been seen wandering scared around a village for weeks. Eventually she was caught, and unsurprisingly she had no collar or microchip to identify who she may have belonged to. Sadly, dogs like Rena rarely come from homes and therefore haven’t experienced the feeling of security and belonging.
Once she had arrived with us at the shelter, almost immediately her terrified, survival mode mentality faded. She arrived with her tail between her legs and looked so disheveled. As soon as we got down to her level, she just leaned in for a cuddle and relaxed completely. Once she knew she was safe, she became an entirely different dog.
Rena is only about a year old and she’s probably a hound mix. She is a beautiful girl and has a sweet, bubbly and affectionate personality. She loves being around people and is always down for a snuggle. She can have quite a bit of nervous energy to begin with and can be quite bouncy, but it’s from a good place and doesn’t take long to subside. Her entire body wiggles when she’s happy to see you and her tail wags like crazy!
Rena would be happiest in a home outside of the city, preferably a bit more rural as hounds are outdoorsy by nature. She could definitely live with another dog and this would probably help her confidence a little in an unfamiliar environment. She could also live as the only dog provided she’s given plenty of patience and can adapt at her own pace, and she’d welcome a home that has direct access to a secure garden.
Rena is likely to need a little bit of time to build her confidence in a forever home, especially if she is adopted as the only dog in the household. However, she is such a loving soul and although she can be a bit submissive with new people she doesn’t have a bad bone in her body and will light up once she realises she’s found her very own family. We think she would also be happy in a home with children as long as they were respectful of her space. She’s truly a love bug and someone is going to be so lucky to welcome her to the family.
