About Rocky

Rocky was brought into the shelter by the dog warden, and although no one came forward to claim him, everything about him suggests he once belonged to someone. He is a very small dog at around 5kg and being in the shelter environment has been extremely overwhelming for him. It is loud, busy and confusing, and Rocky is clearly struggling to understand how he ended up there.

Rocky is a tiny boy with a very big need for human closeness. He is used to being around people and finds comfort in affection, touch and reassurance. Since arriving at the shelter he has been noticeably sad and stressed, often crying and seeking out any opportunity for contact with people. When he does get time with volunteers, his whole demeanour changes. He relaxes, leans in for cuddles and is instantly happier. He very much wants to be someone’s little shadow and thrives on feeling included and wanted.

With people, Rocky is affectionate and gentle. He enjoys being held, sitting on laps and being close, and he forms attachments quickly once he feels safe. He would love nothing more than to be someone’s baby and constant companion. Due to his size and sensitive nature, we think he would be best suited to a home with slightly older children who understand how to handle small dogs calmly and respectfully.

Rocky shares his kennel with other small dogs and generally gets on fine, but he is not a dog who enjoys rough play or being jumped on. He prefers calm canine company and would be happiest either as the only dog or living with another small, quiet dog with a similar temperament. He is more focused on people than other dogs and really just wants stability and reassurance.

Rocky could live in a variety of settings, including a city home, as long as he has frequent company. He is the kind of dog who wants to be with his person as much as possible and would happily tag along wherever he is welcome. Given how unsettled he has been in the shelter, there is a possibility he may struggle with being left alone initially, but with patience, routine and trust this should improve as he settles into a loving home.

Rocky is a very small dog who is feeling very lost right now. What he needs most is a safe, calm home where he can rebuild his confidence and feel secure again. In return, he will offer endless loyalty, affection and companionship to the person who gives him the chance to belong again.
