About Sahara
Sahara was rescued from a horrendous council pound where she was living in a tiny kennel with another dog, in almost complete darkness, and never spent any time outside. She had been there for months before we visited the pound and managed to take out the majority of the dogs, which was back in June 2025. All of the dogs have since been adopted, except Sahara who has somehow remained overlooked.
Sahara is almost three years old and she is a truly lovely character. She is very intelligent, friendly and affectionate, and although she will understandably take some time to adapt to a companion lifestyle given her lengthy stay in shelter environments, she’s desperate to find her person.
Sahara is very good with other dogs and has always been in their company, so we think she would adapt well to a home with another resident dog. That said, in the right environment we also think that she could adapt to being on her own. As she does have a very sociable nature, it would be nice for her to still have regular opportunities to be around other dogs.
Sahara would be best suited to a calm home environment, but with a fairly active lifestyle. She is very clever and would thrive with some basic training as she really enjoys learning and responds well to positive reinforcement. A busy surrounding area would be a bit much for Sahara at this point, and she’d be much more at home in a semi-rural area with lots of lovely walks nearby. She would also prefer a home with direct access to a garden. We don’t know if Sahara has ever had a proper home before, so she needs patience and understanding as she settles in.
Sahara can be a little apprehensive with new people as she’s getting to know them, and she observes the behaviour of other dogs to suss out the situation first. She’s not a fearful dog, she just needs a little bit of time to get to know you, and treats are always helpful to make friends with her!
Sahara has plenty of potential to become a loyal, loving companion, and we think that an active, outdoorsy home with a relaxed home atmosphere would be perfect for her. It will be a whole new world for her to adapt to, but we’re confident that she will blossom with the right family.
