About Tara

Tara arrived at the shelter gates with the dog warden one morning, after he’d found her wandering about on the streets. She had no collar or microchip, and was not spayed, so it was only a matter of time before she’d have ended up with a litter of puppies. It looks as though she’s already experienced motherhood before judging by her tummy, and she’s only around 18 months old.

Tara is a beautiful girl. Her ears are very expressive, and they’re either at 100% or 0%, so she either looks like a bat, or a seal. She has an amazing head tilt when she’s trying to understand a new sound, and she’s a very quick learner. She is eager to please, and responds really well to positive reinforcement training with treats as the reward, although she prefers a smelly, meatier treat than the standard biscuit - she may be a street dog but she is a street dog with taste nevertheless!

Tara is good with other dogs and currently shares her kennel with another female. She’s tolerant of more bouncy dogs, but gels best with dogs of a similar nature to her. She’s very friendly and sweet and could live alongside other resident dogs happily, she doesn’t depend on them (although she does like to snuggle up with her kennel mate in their bed together!) and we think she would be quite happy as the only dog at home, especially if she has plenty of human company throughout the day.

Based on Tara’s temperament, we think she would be suitable for a home with children and she has been very gentle and patient with kids she’s met on volunteering days at the shelter. She still needs a bit more work on her lead training, but she’s not been with us long and she’s made lots of progress already in a short space of time.

Tara would be best suited to a home based outside of the city, preferably semi-rurally or in a calmer residential area. She would love a home with a garden, a relatively active lifestyle, and someone who recognises the time she might need to adjust (as we can’t determine if she’s ever lived in a home before). She has such a sweet, soft nature, and is sociable, trusting and really wants to be around people. She shows a lot of potential for being quick to train, and we think she’d love any opportunity for adventure!
